Speaking also of Illusions Partial or (im)-partial, Guy Horton's column The Indicator over at ArchDaily has recently featured two incredibly real articles on The Next Architecture (1 & 2). He is not afraid to delve into the difficult questions of - what value does the greater public place on architecture? How can architecture be sustained as a profession when the majority of those who practice in its field cannot afford to purchase in the field? What role can the architect play before the building enters the picture?

What exactly constitutes good architecture?
There is, perhaps, a dual sense of "goodness" of the architectural production.
First, good in sensiblity, applicability, and constructablility - that is to say, good in a material sense. Buildings which are worth more than their constituent material parts.
Secondly, good in the sense that the building betters people's realities; promotes some basic sense of self in space as related to a current moment of society.
Architects, then, find themselves entrusted - or not trusted, as it often may be - with political, and moral decisions as well as pragmatic ones.
